May Day! May Day! Yes, my most recent Woody Radio show was on May 1st. So what kind of May Day shenanigans did I pull? Well, for starters, pretty darn near the top of the show, Frank Black, and his now-legendary song about The Three Stooges, followed immediately by Curtis Mayfield’s Superfly. So you knew it was going to be THAT kind of show! How about an R-rated Agony Aunts song? Or brand new, hot-off-the-press tracks from Gretchen’s Wheel and Daniel Trigger, that literally arrived in my inbox just a few hours before showtime? Or Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, followed immediately by Robert Cray’s song about taxation without representation? And that was pretty much just in the first hour of the show. Yep, I was feeling a bit punchy. You could call it musical spring fever. The weather’s been really nice here in Sacramento, and that means you put on the music that’s meant to be cranked loud, and blasted out the windows, whether it’s your car windows, or the windows in your home.
And May portends other good things around here at Woody Radio. Several new DJs have arrived, some of whom I know “IRL” (“in real life” for those of us over a certain age, or who are not that texting-savvy). And they are bringing with them treasure troves of great music, great stories, and tons of music knowledge. They are joining the seasoned Woody veterans, who have for years, brought you some amazing radio. Woody keeps getting better and better. Listen any day or night, and you’ll hear what I mean!
Enjoy the show…
