On this week’s show, it was all about the music. Which is different from normal, where it’s normally all about the music. Ok, maybe not so different, because I am always all about the music. But on this night, I managed to squeeze 57 songs into a show that clocked in at under 3 hours and 25 minutes.
So what type of stuff did I play? What didn’t I play? Sheesh, there was something for everybody. The odd centerpiece of the show was when I played a set of songs that came straight from the “M” part of my collection. A run of 9 songs where the artists’ first or last names began with the letter “M”. And when you start doing stuff like that, you get a wonderfully weird, random-sounding, but nicely-alphabetized set of music. I mean, who would have thought that putting Midnight Oil, Michael Simmons, Merle Haggard, My Little Hum, and Material Issue into the same set was a good idea? Oh. That’s right–it was me who thought that!
But seriously, this may go down as one of the most diverse shows I’ve done yet in my 7 months at Woody Radio. But it probably won’t be the most diverse. More crazy, but good playlists await you in the future. And I do mean that. Let’s say I didn’t have a radio show (perish the thought), and you come over to my house some evening. I would still sit you down, and play you those same 57 songs, and watch your expression as you marvel at how good the indie music of today, and quirky well-known artists of the past are. And your comment would probably be something like “Wow–these indies really do stand shoulder to shoulder with my old favorites!” That’s exactly what I’m going for. To bring some new, deserving music to your attention, and get you enthused about it.
