WOODY RADIO DJ MIKE SHOW #33, 10/9/2018

DjMikeWoodyRadio

This week’s show was an exercise in variety and eclecticism–if that’s an actual word. Okay–I just looked it up, and it turns out that “eclecticism” is indeed a real word. So there’s that. We played a bunch of songs from all over the rock ‘n’ roll spectrum.

Each week, right after DJ Mac plays the last song on his Dischord show, I’ll start my show off with my first song. Then I’ll introduce myself and the show, and play a song. So I thought I’d start off this segment with a potentially risky move: playing a song that I’d never before heard, on the air!

A couple of hours before the show started, I found out that Lannie Flowers’ new single for the month of October had just been released on Spyderpop Records’ website (www.spyderpop.com). This has been going on for eight months now–a new free downloadable single each month. The prior one goes away, and the new one goes up. This is slated to continue until his forthcoming album “Home” is released–and Home won’t contain any of these tracks. So you’ve got to be diligent if you want to collect them all. And these songs are good–among the finest of Lannie’s career.

So in all honesty, it wasn’t really that big of a risk to play a song that I’d not heard–if it was a Lannie Flowers song. His songs are always good. I just thought it would be fun for you and I to hear it for the first time together! My confidence was rewarded–“Where Did All The Fun Go” is a great song.

We also debuted tracks by Molly Grue–a different musical project from Krista Acheson, whose Krista D music we’d been playing over the past few months, and by The Sensations, a side project of the Mother Hips’ Greg Loiacono.

And as far as Oddball Segue of the Week: Well, nothing TOO weird went down, although I can’t imagine that The Bobbleheads have ever had any of their songs follow a John Hiatt track before, and it’s not very likely that Agony Aunts have ever preceded Frank Black. Could be wrong, but I’m hoping that you heard it here first.

Mostly–it was an exciting, and listenable show. We had a great spirited chat in the Woody Radio chatroom during the entire show, plus listeners hung out with me on Facebook. I’m really glad when people are enjoying the music. I hope you will too.

So go ahead, and click on the link below. Give a listen to at least a little bit of this show, to pick up on the good vibe and the great music. And once you’ve done that, please listen live to all my Woody Radio crewmates. This is a great pirate radio ship, and we all live to serve up some amazing music for you.
