WOODY RADIO DJ MIKE SHOW #34, 10/16/2018

DjMikeWoodyRadio

Some weeks are tougher than others. It seems like I’ve been plagued by little technical difficulties all week, and one big one. Unfortunately, the big one happened right in the middle of this week’s show! About halfway through, my broadcast computer suddenly went dead. Kaput. Fini. So I simply rebooted it, and soldiered on, picking up right where I left off. Fortunately, also thanks to today’s technology, I was able to piece the audio back together for this podcast–and you won’t be able to tell where it broke.

Okay, I know what you’re thinking–now you’re going to try to figure out where I patched the show back up. Go ahead, listen, and let me know. And your reward: you’ll get to hear tons of great music in the process. (Full disclosure: you probably will be able to tell, because I comment on it after we come back from the outage.)

We debuted a brand new track from a brand new band, Leafy Seadragon. This band is a Mystery Lawn Records supergroup featuring Allen Clapp and Alison Levy. It’s a great, soulful first single from their forthcoming album, and it wouldn’t sound out of place on The Imperial Sound’s debut record (which we also played on the show). And to give Leafy Seadragon the royal welcome to Woody Radio, I placed it right smack dab in the middle of one of my patented oddball segues: we went from Ass Ponys to Leafy Seadragon to Cheap Trick in just two moves! I also think that Tish Hinojosa and Frank Black have probably never been played back to back before, so that might be a first for radio. And finally, in the overtime segment (you are aware that we do overtime, yes?), we sandwiched an unsuspecting Sarah Stanley between Grateful Dead and Dave Edmunds. Crazy segues that actually work–that’s what we’re all about. Enjoy the show!

And when you’re doing enjoying the music on my show, give a listen to any of the other Woody Radio DJ’s shows. They’re as passionate and knowledgeable about music as anyone I’ve ever heard, and that enthusiasm is likely to rub off on you too.
