We are in mid-winter limbo here in the US. This past rainy Sunday, I had NFL football conference championship playoffs on the TV for 7 mind-numbing hours. I had the volume down. I just felt like returning to those days of my youth, when I followed every sport there is. Nowadays, I just don’t have that kind of time commitment to a sport I’m not even playing in, but it was kind of fun to let myself go, and just enjoy the distraction. But I did have some takeaways:
- I now know who’s going to the Super Bowl in a couple of weeks.
- Sometimes, instead of watching 7 hours of football, all you have to watch is the last minute of each game. I could have saved myself a lot of time.
- Get that bowl of guacamole started early. It’s important, and you’re going to need sustenance when watching 7 mind-numbing hours of football. Or doing anything that’s mind-numbing and lasts 7 hours. But always have the guacamole around.
- And I’ve now achieved some clarity in my life, thanks to the commercials. I’m fairly certain that I’m not on the right cell phone plan, not drinking the right beer, not driving the right car, and not taking the right prescription meds for my condition. Hell, I probably don’t even have the right condition.
So what’s all this have to do with anything? Hmmm, I’m still looking for a good tie-in. But by the time Tuesday rolled around, I was more than ready to jump back into the sport I do play in–playing lots of great indie and not-so-indie rock ‘n’ roll for you. We heard a bunch of new music from 2018, and even newer 2019 music which is just starting to emerge. I also made sure to throw in a helping of older classics. Gotta have your Frank Black, Clash, Luna, Los Lobos, and R.E.M. mixed in with your Imperial Sound, Bottle Kids, Gretchen’s Wheel, and Lannie Flowers. And a couple of Tuesday night Woody Radio debuts from Globelamp and Orbis Max. All in all, my kind of show–and I hope it’s yours too!
