WOODY RADIO DJ MIKE SHOW #55, 4/16/2019

Your fortune, 4/16/2019
Double nickels on the dime. I can’t drive fifty-five. Senior discount at Denny’s. The road from Chicago to New Orleans.

What is he blathering about this week? Well, no other way to put it, but what you are holding in your hands, and are about to listen to, is the 55th episode of DJ Mike’s show! Still haven’t named the thing yet, although working nicknames include “The Tuesday Night Extravaganza” and “Show With No Name”. As I’ve said before in this space, either way, going unnamed suits me just fine. Let’s keep the attention on the music.

And the music–wow! We kicked off with a totally badass, two minute soundcheck song by The Handcuffs–they literally wrote it to use at soundchecks, and it’s fiery enough to give any sound system a workout. And then–you and I did something cool together–we heard Lannie Flowers’ latest free downloadable single (spyderpop.com) for the first time! Yes–you heard me right–I downloaded it the night before the show, and purposely didn’t listen to it. Being a Lannie Flowers song, I already knew it would be great, and I thought it would be cool to just hear it on the air, alongside listeners, for the very first time. My faith was rewarded.

Also–I hadn’t played The Clutter Family on the radio in about seven years–so it was high time to make amends. I also played a song which, if I had to make a list of my top 10 favorite songs of the 1990s, would easily make the list. Which song? Ah…listen, and the truth will be revealed. We had another Fortune Cookie Report. And a weather report. And a mini ag report (just pointed out that I planted a summer garden, that’s all). And of course, as usual, I ran out of time before I got through all the music I had hand selected for you, so we did double overtime. I’m thinking we got our money’s worth with this show. I’ve enjoyed taking hold of the microphone 55 times, and am pleased that the good management at Woody Radio has permitted this/hasn’t caught hold of me yet with a cease and desist order. Either way, I think we’re safe–for now.

Give a listen–I hope you enjoy!
