WOODY RADIO DJ MIKE SHOW #65, 7/2/2019

Halfway through 2019. Yes, I realize that first sentence-like structure has no verb, no action word. But verb or no verb, the music we play on Woody Radio is chock full of action. This show was no exception.

Although we didn’t explicitly bill it as such, I guess that it’s our Independence Day show, as it was broadcast two days before the Fourth of July holiday. So as others have noted in the past, we’re celebrating our “Independents”–the indie musicians who are keeping the rock ‘n’ roll flame lit. My whole point to doing radio shows is to prove that the independent artists make music every bit as good as their more well-known counterparts. So I’ll include both types of artists in the same set. It doesn’t hurt that I have a predilection for, ahem, “unusual” segues. In honoring both philosophies, I wind up with stuff like The Welcome Matt to Sam Phillips to Bellygunner. Or Chris Church to Belly. How about Hannah Judson and The Imperial Sound surrounding Led Zeppelin? Steve Earle to The Decibels? And late in the show, The Fifth Dimension quietly inserted themselves between Bud Rogers and Felsen. How can this be? (Notice that I’m now claiming that the tracks are creating the segues, and absolving myself of all blame!)
