WOODY RADIO DJ MIKE SHOW #70, 8/20/2019

The Natalie Cortez Band live in Sacramento, 8/24/2019.
This summer’s been busy, and I’ve been a little behind on these radio blogs. But I have good excuses–I’ve been going out to shows, or helping to put on shows, or dreaming of going to shows, or cheering on my friends who go to shows, or championing my friends who put on shows. Lots of shows since May. I kicked off that month by seeing a tripleheader show with Anton Barbeau, The Corner Laughers, and Nick Eng, with special guest Allyson Seconds. I had that Twirl Radio Pop Festival that I kind of put on over Memorial Day weekend. Then I went to that big one in Texas last month, with the Spyderpop gang. Then the Spyderpop gang, led by the legendary Bill Lloyd, came out here to California, and that was a must see event. One stage barely contained the talents of Bill, Lannie Flowers, Danny Wilkerson, and local heroes Bellygunner. And then this past Saturday night, I went and saw another set of local heroes, the Natalie Cortez Band, in one of two(!) weekend shows. And yet–there are still lots of shows I’ve missed, I’m sure of it. For instance, our fellow Woody Radio DJ Spaz went to Berkeley on Saturday and saw an in-store, CD release performance by The Rubinoos at Amoeba Records–wow!

But–even though I’ve been busy seeing all these shows, that only motivates me that much more to get back on the radio and share the music with you. A lot of you don’t live near where these bands play, so I need to make sure that you at least get to hear them on the radio. Anything less would be musical malpractice.

Anyway, last week’s Tuesday night show featured a lot of really good music, much of it by the aforementioned musicians. I hope you give it a listen right now. And then wherever you are, go out to see a show. Support original, local and regional music. You’re bound to find something you like!
