WOODY RADIO DJ MIKE SHOW #77, 10/5/2019

This show was special. I’d been wanting to return to Blake Jones’ Whispermaphone Studios for some years now. This is the magic workshop/laboratory where all the Trike Shop albums are recorded. About half a decade ago, I did a sort of freelance, pickup radio show there. This time, operating under the auspices of Woody Radio, I grabbed a rare Saturday afternoon time slot, packed up my radio gear, and drove three hours down to Fresno. I had a great visit with my good friend and gracious host Blake, as we set up our gear, and got everything ready for this big show.

If it were just the two of us, that would have been pretty great–but alas, we had even bigger plans for the show. We decided to round up some of our other Fresno-area music friends for some chat and music, so our epic radio show included the likes of Tom Magill of Poplord, Victor Sotelo, Wade Krause, and Chris Estep of Sparklejet, Chelsea Jones, and Ron “Doc” Morse of Sedan Delivery, Guy Beard and the Lunch Wagon Romeos, and formerly of the Trike Shop. Blake and Chelsea each did a couple of songs live for us. And of course, we played lots of other great music, both related and unrelated to the Fresno music scene.

This was an epic, fun show. It proved that Woody Radio can take their show on the road when we put our minds to it. I hope to come to a town near you sometime soon. Let me know, and maybe we can make it happen!
