Woody Radio DJ Mike Show #88, 1/14/2020

This is where the big Tuesday night radio
extravaganza show with no name happens!

Holy cow! I just came to the realization that we are now in the third(!) decade of the 21st Century! How in the world did that come to be? Seems like just yesterday, we were worried about civilization as we know it, crashing down because our computers couldn’t handle the year 2000, lovingly referred to as “Y2K”. In reality, it wasn’t so much a millennium problem as a century problem. What would happen if we entered the year “00”? Well, not much happened, as it turned out.

Remember, that was back in the days before smartphones, social media, YouTube, streaming services, or even the widespread normalization of internet radio. Yes, there was some fledgling internet radio available–the station I was on was webcasting at the time–but it was a bit of a hard sell, because most of the public was still on dial-up modems, so it was slow and bandwidth-consuming. And don’t even think about it on your phone–those were restricted to, well, phone calls.

What’s even funnier to me is that when quizzed on what the last decade was, a lot of us still kind of think of the 1990s as “the last decade”. The 00’s and the 10’s were a bit of a blur. But now we’re in a well-definied decade, and the future looks pretty bright. Lots of new music from some of my favorites slated to come out this year, and we even played samples of some of them on this show. Another pre-release track from Anton Barbeau. And the first single from Sunshine Boys, “Infinity Girl”. The Secret Weapon’s been playing that since midnight on the day it came out last week, and this was my first chance to show some love to the amazing Chicago group. From what I’ve heard so far, the album they’re working on, “Work And Love”, is going to be amazing. You can learn about it, and if you’re so inclined, help them out with their production costs by pre-ordering, on their Indiegogo site: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/sunshine-boys-album-2-work-and-love#/.

But as for right now, give a listen to this show. It’s got some amazing segues, with lots of great music, new and old. Plus two overtime sessions. Dig in and enjoy the music!
