Not too long ago, I needed to fill up my car, so I stopped and got some expensive California gas. You know the kind–where you’re watching the numbers spin on the gas pump, and the price numbers spin about three times as fast as the gallon numbers. It’s kind of dizzying.
With a few minutes to kill, I looked around, and saw a sign on it which read “No Smoking. Stop Motor.” It brought back memories. Memories from a distant era, when I was just learning to read, and wasn’t very good at it yet. On more than one occasion, our family would be out for a drive, and stop for gas. I would see this sign, and use it as justification to try to get my mom to break her smoking habit. I literally thought the sign was telling me to have my mother stop smoking! In my young mind, it read “No Smoking. Stop Mother.” So I did my best.
So why did I tell you all this? Well, because I was looking through my recent photos, and that one came up. On this particular show, we’ll play a couple of tracks from that era: Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, and then later on, Led Zeppelin and The Fifth Dimension.
But don’t think I’ve forgotten about all the indie artists who I love best. This show is chock full of their great music. Music that needs to be as popular as the aforementioned bands once were. And they can do it, with your help. If I had one wish for you, it would be for you to go get even more music into your lives.
Weird segue in this story, I know, but that does fit my theme of having weird segues in the show itself. And you’ll get to hear plenty of those. Enjoy the show, and please tell a friend to listen too.
