Woody Radio DJ Mike Show #208 4/17/2021: Interview with Don Johns, aka Nolan Voide!

This show was a fun one. I’d been wanting to meet Don Johns, the man also known as Nolan Voide, for quite a while. He’s had a very low-key musical presence on the internet, quietly posting songs and demos on Bandcamp. But in 2021, he took the plunge, re-recorded some of these tracks, and finally released The Forever Endeavor. It’s a fun album. The style is mostly blues-rock, with searing guitar solos by Don’s musical partner in crime, Anthony Estrada. Don sings with a bluesy growl, and it’s effective in getting his often humorous lyrics across (Mid-Life Crisis and Indie-Rock Superstar).

The Michigan native, who resides in Washington State, has a wide ranging knowledge of music. Our conversation was both broad and deep, talking about nearly everything we could fit into an hour or so. Side note–Don has a knack for naming stuff, starting with himself (Nolan Voide), and a couple of his other bands, The Humble Serpents and Los Staremasters. He was a joy to chat with.
